New York City!!!

We had the oppurtunity to spend about twelve hours in New York City while we were on a layover on our way over to Venice. We took the red eye out of Salt Lake City and landed in New York around 6am. Our connecting flight to Venice wasn't until 8pm that night so we had plenty of time to take the subway downtown and visit the city. We started off the morning by visiting the brand new Delta Sky Club in the JFK airport, it is super nice! They have an outdoor patio, where you can watch the planes take off, and land. We ate some breakfast there, and freshened up and then were on our way to the city.

We took the subway downtown and got off at 5th Ave. The first thing we saw was the Rockofeller Center, which was really cool! Then we walked over to Patricks Cathedral, it was under construction...but of course it is still magnifecent! I then started to get pretty tired, since we only had about two hours of sleep on our flight. We began to walk over to Central Park, this man with a bike taxi was very persistent about wanting to drive us around the park for an hour starting at $175...of course we weren't going to pay that much money to only see the park. Due to our time restrictions, we did end up getting him to go all the way down to $80 or so. But, in the end we didn't do it. We decided on taking the Hop on/Hop off bus, which was a much better choice than the bike taxi. The bus was only $25 per person and it took you all around the city and stopped at all of the major tourist attractions along the way. We only got off at a few stops, including, the 9/11 memorial, and the Statue of Liberty. The memorial and the statue of liberty were really cool to see. I really loved seeing the city from the waterfront, it gave it such a different perspective. We ended up taking the Staten Island Ferry(which is free) to see the Statue of Liberty. We finished our stay in the city by getting a hot dog by the water, it just seemed like the New York thing to do. lol. Overall the 12 hours we spent in New York were really great, and we didn't think we were going to have enough time to see everything that we wanted to...but we did!  We headed back to the airport and even had time to go back to the awesome skyclub and take showers before our flight. Yeah, I know, they have showers at the sky club! It was awesome!
